McMaster University student Jason spent one month in summer 2018 volunteering as an English teacher in Beijing, China.

How was your experience on the program?

One of the most unforgettable experiences of my life. I learned so much on this trip. Truly grateful for the experience.

The capital and cultural hub of China, Beijing is home to all its must-see sights. Spend your spare time hiking the Great Wall, exploring the Forbidden City, or cycling through ancient alleyways. There's plenty to see off the main tourist trail as well, and your host family will be more than happy to show you around while introducing local customs and cuisine.

Would you recommend the program to a friend and why?

Yes I would because you learn so much from your peers and students. You get to visit all the museums and landmarks in Beijing. You also meet so many amazing people in this program.

What did you learn from taking part in the program?

I learned how to be more responsible by preparing interesting classes for my students.

How will the program help with your future career/ studies?

It helps me motivate myself to learn even more after witnessing how hard the students work to attain their knowledge.

What was your favourite/ most memorable moment?

When one of the students from my class won first place for the speech competition.
